10 Questions About Me…

My friend Jenny, over at cheetahsinmyshoes has tagged me to take part in answering 10 questions about myself. Foolish woman! What was she thinking?

So, before I enter J.D. Salingeresque hermitry, following the publication of a widely acclaimed book, I suppose I can allow a sprinkling of frivolous factoids to permeate the blogosphere and, like time capsules, elicit awe and love for a forgotten vision, from those lucky enough to come across them, years from now…

  1. Describe yourself in 7 words. Mercurial (posh word for moody – now that I have let you in on this, you MUST remember to refer to me as “mercurial”, it has so much more  mystique than “moody”) Friendly (I have to work hard at being cutting and acerbic) Foolhardy (I throw myself headlong into things, having considered everything but not properly thought it through) Caring (I often worry about the state of the world, and – still, at my age! – consider the feelings of inanimate objects) Adventurous (I’ll give most things a whirl) Frustrated (Let me count the ways…) A Fraud (mentally, I’m still in my early twenties, yet here I am, three and a half thousand miles from home, responsible for the lives of others, with a lifelong commitment to my mortgage lender. Go figure!)
  2. What keeps you awake at night? I’m usually asleep within minutes of my head hitting the pillow, but if I start in on one of my virtual tours, through memory, of my old house, then I won’t be sleeping for a while. My anal brain insists on checking my memory on everything from the door handles and light-switches to the airing cupboard shelves.
  3. If you could be anyone for a day, who would you be and why? Bear Grylls! He’s fantastic! He gets to travel (without kids), see the world, and do some adrenaline-pumping stuff. I’d love to have his confidence and self-assurance. But if we’re talking about going back in time, to be a certain person on a certain day, I would be the doctor who last saw Peter Connelly (Baby P) on the 1st of August 2007. I would conduct a thorough examination, despite the grumpiness of the child, and discover the serious injuries, including a broken back and broken ribs, that went undetected that day, and I would prevent Peter from returning home to his death.
  4. What are you wearing right now? Chanel No.5 and a smile!
  5. What scares you? The thought of something terrible happening to any of my children or my husband.
  6. What is the best and worst about blogging? The best thing about it for me has been finding a creative outlet that lets me escape the hum-drum of life, even if it’s just for minutes at a time. That time when you are so ensconced in your train of thought that everything else melts into nothingness. The worst thing is the frustration when you want to be left alone in “writerhead” but the responsibilities of house and children keep interrupting, and the ensuing guilt, or rush to catch up on the mundane things, like cooking dinner.
  7. What was the last website you looked at? The Bear Grylls one that came up in my “Recommended Links”. I have no idea how his wife gets his clothes clean…
  8. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? My attitude. It’s the only thing holding me back.
  9. Slankets – Yes or No? (this divides the blogging world ;-)) Blanket with sleeves….. I’m in the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” camp. Whats wrong with a bloody blanket? Surely it’s more multi-functional than a Slanket!
  10. Tell us something about the person who tagged you. I’ve known Jenny since we both became mothers, and she has always been a font of knowledge. I dare you to find a question she can’t answer! She is also one of those people who can fit an inordinate amount of meaningful activity into each day…oh hell! I’m going back to Question 1 and inserting “Lazy” and “Slob” in there somewhere!

All that’s left for me to do now, is link back to the original post by Super Amazing Mum and pass the baton to a blogger of my chosing… Russell, you’re IT! I haven’t heard enough from you lately, I don’t care if you’re busy, you can’t neglect the fans!!!!
